Gai had to go to Mackay on business and I had to go to Cairns, so we managed to combine some business and pleasure. A weekend in Mackay was great for some sight seeing.
By clicking on the pictures you can see more of the various areas that we went to.

We decided on a day trip out to Finch Hatton Gorge. The steady drive there took about 90 minutes and was well worth it.

A visit to one of the many dams around Mackay. With the drought currently around you can see the water levels it each one are low. The Kinchant Dam feeds the Eton irrigation system as can be seen from the map on picture 9.

Teemburra Dam is a lovely spot. As you can see from the boat ramp shots the water is really low. It was a pretty steep walk to the bottom of the ramp and the Gai decided to maybe walk part way. A boat was out there fishing and I think that they were working on the principal that with less water there is more fish per cubic meter as the water gets lower.

In Cairns I had to visit the Tablelands area and as you can see there are many beautiful spots and waterfalls to be seen. Malanda Falls is one that the road goes over and as you can see it shows the flood level of 1967.
