2010 June Home Page

Warm, cloudy and 20 degrees. Good driving weather.

Another 159 miles today as we continue southwards. We stop at Fort Augustus and check out the Locks in operation. The Caledonian Canal here feeds into the Loch and is 60 miles long and was built in the 1800's. There are 5 Locks to be navigated here to get into Loch Ness.

On the way a quick stop at the Corran Ferry - one of the few that have not been replaced by bridges and that are still running today. Sadly time didn't allow us on the ferry to cross Loch Linnhe and back again.

We stopped for lunch at the Rod & Reel in Crainlarich and had some toasted sandwiches and a beer. Then continuing south we stop at Firkin Point for photos and a short break at Loch Lomond.

Then some more driving to Eaglesham to the Eglinton Arms. What should have been under a 4 hour trip has taken over 5 hours but we did have a few stops along the way.
