2010 June Home Page

Warm sunny 24 today but it felt hotter. Trip shold be about 124 miles.

We bought some pussy cat egg cups and a magnet and then hit the road. Following the Welsh Coast road for a bit we went though a few small villages and got to Caerleon around 1PM. A pleasant couple of hours drive.

We are staying at The Priory Hotel. This is a big old converted Monestry and suited our preference of staying in old places. This grand old building dates back to 1180 when it was originally a Cistercian Monastry and later becoming a Nunnery. Many of the buildings finest features have been preserved today.

Caerloeon or Caerleon on Usk sits on the banks of the River Usk in South Wales and has long been associated with King Arthur. King Arthur ranges far and wide over Britian but for several years is said to have held Court in Caerleon. There are old Roman Ruins within walking distance from our Hotel.

We found a laundromat with the help of Tom Tom and did some washing and drying. Cost 6 pound in all but it will save us having to do it once we get back. While this was happening Clive went next door to get a hair cut.

Back to the Hotel for a wander around and also to look at the Roman Ruins. A wonderful day topped off with a lovely meal in the Hotel Restaurant.
