2010 June Home Page

Weather for Rome is 30 degress and Pompeii should be 36 - so hot.

A full day tour today doing Naples and Ponmpeii. We were up at 5.30AM for collection at 6.45AM. Our bus was on time today - so that's a good start. First stop is Naples. When we get there it's a brisk 45 minute walk around. Our guide was an elderly woman who had to repeat everything in three languages, so a bit of time wasted. It was very hot and no shade or places where you could rest but we did see some ancient buildings.

Back on the bus to Pompeii and arrived there at 12.00. Into the Cameo shop for a brief look - very expensive and then to lunch at 12.30PM at the Hotel Vittoria. This was a 3 course lunch and a very nice meal. Then gather around outside again for our Pompeii Tour to commence.

The tour takes over 2 hours and the heat and humidity is very draining. Gai's feet are swollen from the past few days, so not too good. The sun is hot and we have our hats on - but luckily no sunburn for us. We're sure that if this was back home we would have been burnt. Perhaps the UV rating is not as high here ?. We were shown many ancient rooms, some still fairly intact and the whole experience was amazing. We were then allowed an hour to ourslves, but with most of us hot and exhausted it was down to the Cafes for a cool drink and some shade, plus an opportunity to collect some souvenirs.

Departing at 5PM it's back to Naples to colect some others to take back to Rome. There was a delay for 30 minutes here, so we eventually got back to Rome at 9.30PM. Quick stop at our Hotel and then out to tea for 10.30PM to our usual Cafe. Good job they stay open until really late here. Home at midnight and finally bed at 2AM. Cost of the tour was 115 Euro each - but well worth every cent.
