2010 May Home Page

Ridiculous weather, Overcoats yesterday and shorts weather today. There were sirens all night but we slept through most of it. We walked a couple of blocks to catch the hop on/off bus to the opposite part of the City down to Ground Zero and got off at the Wharf to see Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. We bought our tickets, the line wasn't too long here.

Then through to pick the Ferry up. Security here was tight. All bags and us went through Airport type security. There were literally hundreds of people loading on to the boat shuttle as it was the last one leaving at 3.30pm.

Up 2 flights of stairs on to the top deck and we are on our way. Gai squeezed in beside an elderly woman making her move over and was set. It's only a 20 minute ride to Ellis Island and finally we see the Statue of Liberty. We stayed on the boat as neither of us wanted to walk around the Island and 20 minutes later we were heading back to Battery Park.

We got back at 4.20 pm and slowly walked through the Park to pick up the Red Bus. The line here was long as well and Gai said "OK, I'm over lining up now". About 15 minutes later an empty buses came to pick us up. Quite organized actually.

We enjoyed the rest of the Bus trip seeing New York sites, up past Central Park again then down to Times Square.
