We were up at 10AM today - thank goodness not an early flight. We have a 7 hour flight to Dusseldorf then a 1 hour 25 minute flight from Dusseldorf to Heathrow flying Lufthansa. Well - we thought we did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After a 1 ½ hour taxi trip from 11.30 to 1pm we arrived at Newark Airport and went to the Lufthansa check in desk. Not too many people in line so far, so this is good. The line doesn't seem to be moving very fast though. A few people are being processed but not many. At this rate we could be here all day! Spoken in jest but turned out to be true.

After about half an hour of not going anywhere a man from Lufthansa started addressing the first lot in line, we thought "trouble here". When he got to us he announced that the flight to Dusseldorf for Friday had been cancelled due to engine problems. We were told to stay in line and other alternatives would be made. We asked about us going to London and he said that they should be able to get us onto a BA flight to Heathrow, probably the last one at 11pm.

After waiting in line another 1 ½ hours we were told to go to their ticketing counter where we would be issued tickets for the BA flight to Heathrow. After waiting in line there for another hour (even though we only had 4 people in front of us) we were issued tickets for our flight. This took another half hour to process.

We were upgraded to Premium Economy on the BA flight which was a plus, the minus being we still had hours to go. We spent the time sitting around the airport then off to the bar at 7 pm. In the meanime we managed to contact Aunty Ann and tell her we would not be arriving early morning but midday.

Clive had 2 Bud Lights and then the tap went dry. Gai bought a Lee Childs book for $10 and then we boarded at 10.30 pm.

There were only 3 of us in our Premium Economy Section so the service and leg room was great. It was a 6 hour flight to Heathrow. Clive's TV screen didn't work so he moved seats. We drank small bottles of white wine, had a meal of chicken and a dessert. Gai watched "It's Complicated" then went to sleep. Clive stayed awake the whole time so he was a bit tired the next day.

We finally have
our tickets.

Just hanging around
passing time away.
