Tuesday 22nd December
We are up at 5.45 to head off to BAP and then onto the International Airport. Even though Norfolk Island is an external
territory of Australia you still need a passport to get there - and return back into OZ!
Found BAP really easy as they have moved a bit further out from when we last used them. Mind you, the Garmin GPS helped
out a lot too. Parked the car and then a short walk to one of the pick up points with Clive following towing all the
luggage and his back pack. We are traveling light this trip with a small and medium suitcase and a backpack with the
computer and other bits in it. Whoopsy - forgot to lock the car.
We were told to go straight to customer service counter as they would get a wheel chair for Gai, but after standing
around for 5 minutes Clive went and got one. We had priority check in as we were flying premium economy and also use
of the Customer Service Lounge after we had gone through immigration etc. Luggage all booked through with one bag at
8kgs and the other at 18kgs. Now with Gai happily sitting down Clive proceeded to go through immigration.
Down in the lift and then into the special queue for wheelchair access / staff.
So now off to Customs - again using the special lane for disabled and staff. No joining the long queue for us.
Easily processed through there and then it's off to the lounge. Very comfortable chairs and plenty of food and drink.
All we had was some water each. We stayed there for about an hour and then they came and collected us to take us to
boarding. Well -- first on the plane and even though Clive was meant to have the window seat I scored it.
The service on the plane was excellent. Clive had the penne chicken pasta and I had the braised beef. Well actually
all I ate was a bit of bread roll with Clive eating the steak too. A glass of wine for me and a couple of beers for Clive.
The plane landed slightly ahead of time. First on the plane meant last off the plane. They brought the wheelchair cage
up with a forklift and Clive went down the stairs. It was like a crane as going down I felt it going down and back.
The hostess then proceeded to wheel me into the Terminal and past everyone else while Clive went in search of the luggage.
So I was first though Customs too. Clive was immediately behind as we had priority baggage so that was first off the plane
also and waiting for us, even though we were last off.
I got wheeled out to meet Rosalee and wheeled right up to 'Kermit" - our hire car. It is a fluro green colour.
Tau Cottages are situated on the other side of the airport about 10 minutes away. Our cottage is named "Hannah" and
is the last one. We have a three way verandah around it. We can see the airport runway from our lounge room.
It's nice and quiet too, apart from some youngsters in a house behind us occasionally playing the drums but
they will only be there a few days as the family is heading back to Australia on Boxing Day.
Off to the shops to get some food and drinks to stock up. Back for a rest and then Clive went out to get some
chicken and chips for tea.
Weather today was partly cloudy about 24.
