So we have to be out of the cottage by 10.00 as our flight is not until 14.40 and suggested check in is 13.40.

Clive decides that we need to go for a drive to see some parts of the island that he / we never got to visit this trip. This is mainly over on the north-west side of the island plus he would like to get a few new shirts. The last ones we bought are 6 years old and still going strong!.

Firstly we went and have a drive through Jackaranda Cottages which is where we stayed last time. Then it was to the church to drop off the left over groceries and beer that we had and then it was off to Ball Bay. Down a steep windy road and there you have the beautiful beach made of black rocks that are round like balls of various sizes.

Next it was to the Two Chimneys Reserve. Past the winery which was closed and to this lovely reserve full of old Norfolk Pines. You could see the White Terns nesting in the trees. This was a one way road so some back tracking was now required to head back to Cascade Road and down to Cascade Bay. The wharf on this side of the island is used if the weather is too rough on the southern, Kingston, side. There were three people fishing here and you could feel the force of the ocean as waves were swept up onto the rocks. We certainly would not have wanted to have been here during the low that happened a few days ago.

This is also the site of the old whaling station, with the boiler now silently rusting away.

From here it was back into town to try a few shops for shirts. No luck here but Clive remembered a T Shirt shop just by the airport. We were in luck. They were open and had what he wanted. 3 shirts for him and a t-shirt for me.

We had to fill the car up with petrol as part of the hire agreement. Well at $2.29 per litre and the car taking 21 litres there was very little change from $50.00!! Petrol at home is only $1.19 per litre.

It was now about 12 - meaning lunch time - so we headed to the Rosella Bar and cafe for some food. While I enjoyed a glass of wine, Clive had a beer and a chicken salad wrap. A very pleasant way to spend lunch watching the world go by.

One o'clockish and time to head to the airport. No air conditioning and only a few fans here and with about 150 bodies in the room that was really only big enough for all the passengers it was hot and humid. You've got to feel sorry for the workers.

I was one of the first on the plane again - but also one of the last off. Flight was uneventful with Clive reading MY KOBO! The staff at Brisbane airport and on both Air New Zealand flights were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for them. We'd certainly fly with them again.

We had the BAP courtesy bus pick us up and shuttle us back to the Jeep. Set the GPS for home and we were on our way with an estimated arrival time of 6.02PM.
