2010 June Home Page

Weather is a sunny 20 degrees and we are only 116 miles from Marlow.

Clive went down for some breakfast and we ended up leaving just after 11AM for Didcot Railway near Oxford. It's practically on the way home and we only have a few days when we get back before we head off to Rome.

We got to Didcot around 12.30PM and paid the 4 pound 60 pence for all day parking. Then a long walk from the car park up and down foot bridges to finally get to the Railway entrance. We bought our tickets and then boarded the steam train. Well the ride only lasted 5 minutes but you can go back and forth as many times as you like all day if you want to. But there was more to see here than just ride trains.

Getting off at the end we started a slow walk back looking over old carriages and engines. We saw them work the turn table and had a bite to eat in the Cafe there. Didcot Railway is based around the original Great Western Railway Engine Shed built in 1932. Many of the original features survive today along with some later additions. Gai ached from all the walking that we had done this day.

Eventually arriving back at Marlow - after missing the turn off twice - we were greeted by Dave, Jenny , Thomas and Flora who all stayed the night. Clive cooked a fish curry for tea whilst Gai had a ham sandwich. Finally all getting to bed around 2AM it was a long enjoyable day.
