2010 June Home Page
Weather a sunny 18.
Up at 7AM to go to the aiport as we have to drop the car off and we'd rather be early than late. The car has been great and
we've put a few miles on her - 1810 to be exact. The speedo now reads 2160 and it was only 350 when we collected it. We
booked in the two big bags and kept the others. Now to wait for our flight which leaves at 12.30PM.
Finally left at 1.15PM, but Gai manage to amuse herself by taking pictures of all the planes lined up. We had seats 34A and
34B and can you guess who had the window seat...again ???
Flumicino Rome Aiport is another big airport. We caught the monorail to collect our bags and then tried to find our
transport to the hotel. Lots of signs in Italian and very few in English here - very confusing.
Now for the bus ride to the Hotel Augustea where we are staying. Motorbikes going everywhere in this organised chaos of
traffic. The buildings all look quite old on the outside, but inside it is a bit different. The foyer is shared between two
hotels - the Augustea and Republica. It's now getting on for 7.30PM and what is a 'simple' 2.5 hour flight has taken
up a day.
Time for some food. Tried to find a pub for a well earned drink but there were only lots of Cafe style eating places.
Eventually we found one with a nice varied menu and a table outside. The restaurant is called the Doveralu and we would
eat here again during our stay. Gai had a crepe with ham and cheese and Clive had a chicken breast fillet. Delicious.
We left at 10.30PM and back to the Hotel. Early morning call booked for 5.30AM as we have the Vatican Tour tomorrow.
Aircondition does not work, so windows are open. Asleep by 11.30PM despite all the noise outside.
